What Help Is Available After Discharge from an Inpatient Treatment Program?

By on May 13, 2025 in Addiction Treatment, Aftercare

Inpatient treatment is one of the foundations of recovery for people with moderate to severe addiction. It’s a safe environment where you can detox, work through trauma and stress, and get help for co-occurring mental health disorders. While you are there, you’ll work hard on yourself without having to worry about the responsibilities at home. For many people, the thought of leaving this environment is frightening. What’s going to help you avoid relapse once you leave?

Prepping During Inpatient Care

When you enroll in inpatient treatment at Victory Addiction Recovery Center, you’ll learn a great deal about how to prevent relapse after your discharge. You’ll learn methods to handle stress, triggers, and trauma during everyday life that may encourage you to use. You’ll learn how to manage cravings and how to manage relationships.

Should You Go Home or to Transitional Housing?

When you are ready to leave care, your counseling team will talk to you about all of your options. Many people choose to go home because they have a stable home atmosphere that is supportive of their journey through recovery. However, many other people do not have this type of environment. That’s okay.

Our team will help you to find transitional housing. This is an opportunity for you to live in a location that gives you the structure you need to do well. You will have responsibilities and may have to work. You will be surrounded by mentors and other men and women in recovery. For some people, transitional living is the stepping-stone they need before moving out on their own to live an addiction-free lifestyle.

Securing Aftercare Once You Leave Our Care

In all situations, once you leave inpatient care, you may still need ongoing support. Most people need continuing counseling on an outpatient basis. Frequency of care depends on your unique needs and goals. Our aftercare treatment programs are customizable to meet your specific needs, including providing you with help through group therapy and one-on-one counseling. During this time, you’ll have your counselor available to talk to you and guide you through important decisions.

The benefits of ongoing care are many, including:

  • Support when you feel cravings and want to use
  • Help with managing relationship changes as you enter back into life
  • Support for ongoing management of mental health and trauma
  • Guidance for you as you work to improve your health and emotional wellbeing

Treatment doesn’t just end when you complete inpatient care. It just means you need to start working at rebuilding your life outside of treatment while still working on yourself.

Group Therapy Support

Outside of the care you receive from our team, many people with addictions also need to obtain support through group therapy. Our counselors will help you find 12-Step programs and other types of group therapy in your area. Getting into a meeting can help you to avoid using drugs and alcohol.

Mentoring and Alumni Support

In addition to all of these options, most people will develop new relationships during their inpatient therapy. You may find that having a mentor, a person who you can always turn to, is the most empowering way to get through those hard moments. Many times, our alumni will come back to help mentor those facing drug and alcohol addiction. Working with mentors and alumni empowers you to achieve your goals.
