Who Is the Ideal Candidate for Outpatient Addiction Treatment?

By on May 29, 2019 in Addiction, Blog, Recovery

stack of post-it notes with question mark - IOP

Do you believe you don’t have time to think about inpatient addiction treatment? If so, an intensive outpatient program, or IOP, could be the right tool for you to get sober.

What Is an Intensive Outpatient Program?

Intensive outpatient treatment programs can offer a higher level of care from traditional outpatient care, but they still allow you to live at home with your family. At our drug and alcohol addiction treatment program in Lafayette, Louisiana, many of our patients benefit from this specific type of treatment. It’s not for everyone, however.

If you have been addicted for years, have a high-risk lifestyle, or live in a home without support, it’s better to consider a residential treatment program. Those who have complications, multiple addictions, or a co-occurring mental health disorder also should consider the value of an inpatient program.

Are You the Right Candidate for an IOP?

You will need to discuss your unique situation with a qualified care provider, but there are some key factors that suggest you might be a good IOP candidate.

You Have a Family
Men and women with children to support often put off getting the treatment they need because they feel they can’t leave their family. Even if you really want to, you may not have the option of leaving for a long period of time. This is a good example of when intensive outpatient therapy can help you balance your family responsibility with your desire to get sober.

Keep in mind that at Victory Addiction Recovery Center, our intensive outpatient programs include 36 group counseling sessions, family group sessions, and individual counseling. It’s a long-term program that requires a significant commitment. Having a family may require you to live at home, but you still need to be ready to commit to your recovery to be successful.

You Are a Busy Professional
Though your employer may provide you with support for your addiction recovery, and most often you can qualify for time off due to the Family Medical Leave Act, you may not feel as though you can simply step away from work for a long period of time. However, if alcohol or drugs are limiting your performance and you are struggling with your quality of life as a result, it’s time to think about the benefits of intensive outpatient care.

In this case, you can work the 12-Step program we offer and attend counseling sessions while you are not at work. However, you will need to dedicate the time to getting help, which may mean missing work for detox or getting help from more intense therapy to get started.

You Run Your Own Business
There’s no doubt that walking away from your own business for a period of time can be problematic. Yet, maintaining your business on drugs or alcohol is going to be even more challenging over the next few months and years. Outpatient care can help you to get help around your schedule while allowing you to maintain your company.

Our programs at Victory Addiction Recovery Center happen during the week in the evenings. That’s important to know since you’ll need to dedicate yourself to treatment each session to get the results you need.

You’re Worried About the Cost
Many health insurance policies provide coverage for drug and alcohol addiction treatment. However, you may not have access to care, or you may not have enough to pay for inpatient treatment. Taking the first step in seeking out treatment through intensive outpatient may be an option for you then.

The key to remember here is that cost aside, your life is on the line. Be sure to make the commitment to yourself to get this level of care for your future.

What You’ll Find at Victory Addiction Recovery Center
